When I started my job search in Australia, I thought my experience working for a global advertising agency back home would give me an edge. But after two years of searching and endless rejections, I realized I was missing something crucial. I went through 2–3 internal interviews at the company I was working casually for but couldn’t progress to the next round.

I didn’t have local experience, and my resume wasn’t tailored to the Australian job market. I used the same resume for every job, hoping my background would speak for itself. It didn’t. After applying for hundreds of jobs during the two years of my graduate visa, I felt hopeless and even depressed. Every day, I waited anxiously for phone calls or emails, but nothing came.

With only six months left on my visa and during the pandemic, I knew I had to make a change. That’s when I found Thea Ho through my network. Her success stories caught my attention, especially the fact that she, too, is a migrant who had climbed higher in her career abroad than in her home country. I decided to invest in myself and give her coaching a try. It was the best decision I could have made.

Before working with Thea, job descriptions all looked the same to me. I expected companies to recognize my global experience, but they didn’t. Thea completely revamped my approach.

We worked on every aspect of my application: resume, cover letter, LinkedIn profile, portfolio, and interviews. The resume we created showcased not just my tasks but my achievements and transferable skills.

One of the most impactful parts of Thea’s training was her interview formulas. These strategies helped me answer any interview question confidently and persuasively.

Networking was another key area. With Thea’s guidance, I learned how to approach people on LinkedIn, expand my offline network, and leverage my existing connections. Networking became second nature to me, and I started receiving countless interview opportunities. I realized that while companies may have a thousand reasons not to hire you, they also have a thousand reasons to connect with you. Networking opened up doors I didn’t even know existed.

The results were nothing short of extraordinary. Within just two weeks of working with Thea, I applied for a job at The Star and immediately got an interview. This was unheard of for someone without local experience, but Thea’s training helped me highlight my transferable skills and local experience in a way that impressed them.

Another milestone was reaching the top 21 candidates for a face-to-face interview with WPP, a global advertising agency. I even had the chance to network with industry leaders, including the Head of the country in Australia. As one of the few candidates with an international background, this was a dream come true.

Ultimately, I landed a role as a Café and Marketing Manager. This position allows me to bring my creative ideas to life while also opening new doors in business development. It’s not just a job—it’s a new direction for my career and a crucial step toward achieving PR eligibility.

In total, I received about 30 interviews across different sectors, including health & wellness, hospitality, marketing, and communication agencies. Many of these interviews came through networking, which has now become a valuable long-term strategy for me.

If there’s one thing I wish I could change, it’s that I should have met Thea earlier. Her strategies would have saved me so much time, effort, and emotional struggle. Thea’s approach is universal—you can use her techniques not just in Australia but in any country, including the US.

With her guidance, I learned how to knock on doors the right way and connect the dots to create a new career path for myself. My life has completely changed. Before, I was stuck asking myself, “Why do I stay here?” Now, I have the answer: I stay because I’ve found my purpose and a career I love.
