Challenges
INTRO.............................................
After dedicating eight years to earning my bachelor’s and master’s degrees, I found myself stuck working part-time jobs that weren’t aligned with my passion. My ultimate goal was to secure a role in engineering and achieve permanent residency (PR) to live in Australia, but the journey felt impossible.
For two years after graduation, I applied relentlessly for engineering roles. The pandemic made it especially hard for graduates like me, with limited experience—just a short stint back home and a 7-month internship in Australia. I tried everything: applying online, reaching out to people on LinkedIn, and even calling them directly.
Despite applying to more than 1,000 jobs, I only got one interview, but they required PR or citizenship. At that time, I was on a graduate visa, which ruled me out. The stress and rejection became overwhelming, and eventually, I stopped applying altogether.
Strategies
LEARNING............................
When I began working with Thea Ho, I focused on improving my resume and cover letter. Her training was clear, easy to follow, and practical enough for me to work on while balancing my part-time job.
Thea’s application strategies completely transformed my resume and cover letter. Her approach not only helped me create stronger applications but also unexpectedly prepared me for interviews. I learned how to read job ads, identify key skills and keywords, and anticipate the questions I might be asked.
In addition, Thea provided a list of commonly asked interview questions and guided answers. This was invaluable when I finally landed an interview, as I only had 2-3 days to prepare. Thanks to Thea’s materials, I could get ready quickly, even while working part-time.
Results
SUCCESS.................
The breakthrough came when a company I had applied to previously reached out to me. They still had my details on file and wanted to know if I was still interested in the role. They invited me to an interview shortly after.
The time to prepare was short, but I relied on Thea’s strategies and guided answers to get ready in just a few days. The remote interview lasted about 35-40 minutes and focused on technical engineering skills, IT skills, engineering programs, and two specific software tools.
I did my best to answer all their questions, and a few weeks later, I received the job offer!
The role offers a great salary for a graduate, and although it’s based in a regional area of New South Wales, that’s not an issue for me. What matters most is that I’m now working in a job I’m passionate about.
Even better, this job makes me eligible to apply for a permanent visa (subclass 491) after just one year. I can’t believe how much my life has changed. After two years of rejections and feeling like I’d have to give up and return home, I’ve finally achieved the breakthrough I was looking for.
This opportunity felt like an impossible dream, but Thea’s coaching made it a reality. Thank you, Thea, for giving me the tools, guidance, and confidence to achieve my career goals and make my PR dream come true!
